SM80 and SM80R

Reversible rotary actuator

Application
The rotary actuator SM80 is best suited for automation of 3-way and 4-way mixing valves (e.g. mixing valves made by EXCELSIOR BÜCHE) for heating systems in nominal sizes DN20 up to DN32.
In addition, the rotary actuator is also widely used to operate ball valves in sizes DN15 to DN25 equally for 2-way or 3-way valves, the latter in a horizontal or vertical design.

Function
– The rotary actuator SM80 is controlled by an electrical signal coming from a thermostat, remote control or manual switch.
– Another possibility is the three-point control by means of an appropriate control device having the outputs: OPEN-INACTIVE-CLOSE.
– The model with relay (SM80R) is also suitable to be controlled by an ON-OFF switch.

The actuator is also equipped with an additional limit switch providing two electrically isolated contacts (switch) applicable to model (SM80) or only equipped with a closing contact applicable to model (SM80R).
By default, the rotation angle of the rotary actuators is 90°, but there is also given the possibility to enlarge the rotation angle to 180°.

The rotary actuator has a lever mounted on the actuator to allow setting the valve to the desired position without being connected to the power supply.
However, once the actuator is electrically connected it will find by himself the position set by the controller.

The rotary actuator also offers the two following options:
– With F03-flange to ISO 5211 in stainless steel. This design provides additional seals in order to achieve protection class IP 65
– Power supply 12VDC or 24VDC with running  time 15 seconds for 90° rotation angle

Construction
All mechanical internal parts are made of metal. The gearbox housing is made of aluminum and the gears are made of steel.
The housing bottom and the housing cover are both made of impact resistant plastic in flame retardant quality according to UL 94 VO.
Furthermore, on the bottom there are also two cable glands PG11 mounted, made from self-extinguishing polyamide.
Optionally, the housing bottom will be equipped with a mounting flange to ISO 5211 F03 with an 9 mm square.
The rotary actuator meets all the requirements of the following standards:
– CEE 89/336-73/23-93/68
– UE 2002/95/EC
– UE 2002/96/EC (ROHS and WEEE)

Notes
The electrical installation of the rotary actuator must be performed strictly by a qualified electrician according to local regulations. The ground terminal also has to be wired properly.
